YES Employer Connections pay off for Darnell
Darnell is loving his job at Thunder Bay Waterproofing. He returned to Thunder Bay in March of this year when pandemic restrictions were in full swing, but he was determined to find a general labour job and start a career here. Connecting to the right opportunity started with a visit to YES.
Darnell had been living in Armstrong and he had been working steadily up until 2021. The pandemic restrictions were resulting in fewer work hours, so he headed back to Thunder Bay. We had helped him find work in Thunder Bay previously, so he re-connected with us and started working with Career Development Practitioner, Brenda Richtig. Darnell says that the biggest advantage to having Brenda in his corner was the employer connections. He had not been in Thunder Bay since 2016 and he no longer had a network to help him find work. When the owner of Thunder Bay Waterproofing walked in to YES to let us know they were in urgent need of new staff, Brenda instantly thought of Darnell. After a telephone interview, Darnell was hired on.
The match was a good one. Darnell enjoys the work and appreciates the skills he has gained and the fact that the contracting company is busy enough to provide full-time work. The owner of Thunder Bay Waterproofing is thrilled with Darnell’s work ethic saying that this summer’s crew is the “best in our six years of business.” Congratulations on your success Darnell, and thanks to Thunder Bay Waterproofing for providing this great local opportunity.
If you are looking for work, YES can help. We serve clients of all ages and skill levels and our relationship with local employers can help connect you to opportunities that may not be posted anywhere else. Just call or visit to connect!
