Curtis moved to Thunder Bay from North Bay in the Spring of this year.  He didn’t have any employer contacts or a network to help him find work, but he did have one of the most valuable job search tools; a knowledge of Employment Ontario programs.  Employment Ontario programs help connect individuals to employment and training throughout the province of Ontario.  The programs are available to job seekers of all ages.  They also provide recruitment assistance and training incentives to employers, and all of these services are free.

Curtis had gone through the Youth Job Connection program in North Bay.  He had gained some valuable experience working as a sales associate with a local grocery store.   When he found himself in a new city, Curtis knew that he could get personal assistance with his job search through Employment Ontario programs so he sought them out and walked in to YES.  Career Development Practitioner, Stacy-Ann Dyer-McNish worked with Curtis to connect him with employment through the Employment Service program.  Having recently worked with an EO program, Curtis was well situated to find employment quickly.  He had a solid resume and recent experience.  After discussing options with Curtis and creating a plan of action, the two focused on an opportunity with Boreal Solutions Thunder Bay.  Stacy-Ann negotiated a contract that would offset the cost of training Curtis in his new job.  The Employment Service program also has support dollars available to clients, so Stacy-Ann was able to set Curtis up with work boots and bus tickets to get him started.  After a short placement, Stacy-Ann followed up with the employer who was very impressed with Curtis.  He was hired on after the contract due to his strong work ethic and willingness to learn.  Congratulations on your new position, Curtis.  YES thanks Boreal Solutions for their commitment to providing opportunities to our Employment Ontario clients.
