Meranda worked with YES and was recommended to and hired by Feathers of Hope as a Youth Engagement Worker

Partnering with local businesses and organizations is at the core of our service here at YES Employment Services.  Understanding recruitment needs and listening to the unique requirements of each hiring decision means better job matches and placements for our clients, and it helps our employers build stronger teams.

Koral Hamilton is the Project Manager at Feather’s of Hope.  A former YES client herself, Koral reached out to Career Development Practitioner (CDP), Annie Pepin as part of her recruitment strategy.   Koral was recruiting for Youth Engagement Workers, and she forwarded the job description to our team.

Annie’s client Meranda had a strong background in advocacy.  She had volunteered to assist individuals in Fort Frances as they navigated supports in the areas of mental health, addictions and the criminal justice system.  Annie had spoken extensively with Meranda about her career goals, and they aligned well with the requirements of the position available, and the values of the organization.  Annie forwarded her resume to Koral, and she was hired after a successful interview.

With a conference coming up that would be hosted by the organization, Koral reached out to Annie again, looking for Indigenous notetakers between the ages of 18 and 35 who would be paid an honorarium for their services.

We caught up with Koral and Meranda at the conference and we were happy to see that Breeze, one of the young people Annie had referred over as a notetaker were also working on site.  It was the first conference Meranda was assisting with, and she was enjoying the speakers and engaging with the youth participants and the Elders.  It was clear that she was learning and working in an environment where she could utilize her skills to engage and advocate for her community.

We want to thank Koral at Feathers of Hope for putting her trust in YES and creating a partnership that has led to opportunities for our clients.  We look forward to working with the organization in the future and becoming an ongoing part of the recruitment process.  Congratulations to Meranda!  We wish you ongoing success in your position.

We welcome employers and clients to reach out by calling 807-623-0768 or e-mailing resource@yesjobsnow.com to connect with our team.

We are excited to announce that Emmanuel Ogbu has joined the YES team!  His journey began with a deep-seated passion for understanding human societies and advocating for social equity.  Emmanuel’s quest for knowledge led to the completion of two master’s degrees—one in Health Sociology and the other in Social Justice.  We are so glad that he has chosen to apply his passion and expertise at YES as the newest member of our Career Development Practitioner team.  Join us in extending a warm welcome to Emmanuel.

It’s time to give back to our clients who are pursuing post-secondary education. The YES Memorial Scholarship was created in loving memory of clients and staff who are no longer with us. Any client registered within the last year (September 2023-September 2024) with proof of enrollment to attend post-secondary education in the fall of 2024 can apply for this $500 scholarship. Just visit YES for an application or e-mail: resource@yesjobsnow.com. The deadline to apply is Monday September 9th, 2024.
