YES assisted Joseph in landing a job as a Geologist -Now he has secured his long-term goal of working in the Mining Industry

The pandemic hit many occupations hard.   At YES we have been amazed at the resilience and persistence of our clients throughout the Covid-19 restrictions.  We have seen clients of all ages and skill levels struggle through adversity and come out successful.  Working with one of our Career Development Practitioners, (CDPs), gives you access to professional assistance to explore your options, connect with employers and utilize the Employment Ontario programs and services available to all Ontario residents.

Joseph Suk came to YES in January 2020.  He had been working in a related field as a lab technician but he was focused on finding work as a Geologist and his long-term goal was to work in the mining industry.  After discussions about these goals with his CDP, Joseph was connected with Bayside Geoscience Inc.  Through the Employment Service program, YES was able to help Joseph secure a Geologist position with the company by setting up a 4-week training incentive with the employer to help offset the cost of onboarding and training him.

Bayside was a great fit for Joseph.  He worked as a contracted Geologist on sites across Ontario and spent almost a month in Lebel-sur-Quévillon in Northern Quebec.  Unfortunately, the onset of Covid-19 halted his progress.  Geologists were not recognized as essential workers and he was laid off until April when his field was allowed to re-open.

Bayside was not in the position to send him on any contracts at that time.  However, since he now had some solid experience, Joseph found work with Ardiden, an Australian Gold Company that operates in and around Pickle Lake.  He started a contract in May and did some Data Management before getting in to what he really enjoyed;  drill core logging and Geo-chemical work.  The contract included a fly-in helicopter  operation and Joseph continued to gain valuable field experience.

In December, Joseph re-connected with Bayside and he was able to take on a number of projects where he could continue core logging in small Ontario towns including Dryden and Missinaibi.

At the beginning of June, YES connected with Joseph during a follow-up call.  We were thrilled to hear that his experience had just landed him a Geologist position in the mining industry.   Through a contract with Bayside, he will be doing core logging at Lac Des Illes mine looking for the minerals that host Platinum and Palladium.   YES would like to congratulate Joseph on his commitment, his perseverance, and his success in achieving his long term goal.
