An Ideal Opportunity in Mining Support – Bill Lands a Job with Outland-Horizon North!
We are excited to share Bill’s story because he has clearly found an opportunity that is not only well-suited to his experience, but also fits in well with his lifestyle. Bill had extensive work experience and field work in his previous career. He was in the position to retire early but desired to continue working. Seeking guidance and support, he turned to our Employment Service program to explore his options and connect with new opportunities.
Bill’s Career Development Practitioner, Brenda Richtig, worked closely with him to develop an impressive resume and, more importantly, identify career options that he could dedicate his experience and passion to. Early in 2023, Brenda found out that our Employer Relations team was hosting a job fair for Outland-Horizon North on-site at YES. Recognizing the great potential fit, Brenda wasted no time in notifying Bill about this exciting event.
The job fair held potential prospects that resonated with Bill’s aspirations. Bill chatted with the recruiter who was impressed by his extensive field experience. She took his resume and soon, Bill received an interview invitation, which Bill gladly accepted. The interview prompted a quick job offer and Bill accepted. The whole process took less than a week.
That Friday, Bill found himself on a plane, bound for his new workplace. The worksite, situated in a remote location, required a float plane journey of 1.5 hours from Nakina to a remote airstrip, followed by a brief 5-minute helicopter ride to the Esker Site with Ring of Fire Metals. This exploration site holds immense potential in supplying vital minerals for the electric car battery industry.
As the Site Support with Outland-Horizon North, Bill’s responsibilities encompass a diverse range of tasks. He ensures the plant generator runs smoothly, assists with Diesel and Aviation flow, and stays busy with maintenance and cleaning duties. Bill follows a 14-day in, 14-day out work schedule, perfectly aligned with his family’s needs.
Thrilled with his newfound position, Bill took the time to express his gratitude by returning to YES Employment Services. He acknowledged the pivotal role the Employment Ontario program played in connecting him with Outland-Horizon North. Working in an innovative field plays a large role in the appeal for Bill and he feels right at home working in the remote location. He also really appreciates the camaraderie among his colleagues. “We get fed incredibly well”, Bill mentioned, identifying another perk of the job. YES would like to congratulate Bill on his position and thank Outland-Horizon North for providing this ideal opportunity.

We are still welcoming clients to apply to our Memorial Scholarship. Any client who has registered with YES Employment Services within the last year (September 2022 – September 2023) and will be attending post-secondary education in the fall of 2023 (diploma, degree or certificate program) is eligible to apply.
