Success for Leah in the Esthetics Field

Leah’s journey towards a successful career in esthetics is an inspiring example of the power of determination and the impact of the Youth Job Connection program (YJC). Leah was passionate about esthetics and had a strong desire to work in a salon, but despite sending out numerous resumes, she struggled to break into the industry. However, when a friend referred her to the Youth Job Connection (YJC) program at YES Employment Services, Leah’s took the first step toward her career goal.

The YJC program provided Leah with valuable pre-employment training, but it was the employer connections that proved to be the most beneficial to her. Tracy Laffin, YES Employer Relations Coordinator, connected Leah with Michael’s Hair Design, and Leah immediately hit it off with Michael during their meet and greet. Michael saw potential in Leah and provided her with a placement opportunity in the field, giving her access to the “trade secrets” of esthetics. Leah learned about appointment scheduling, the importance of time management, and the critical role of sanitization in esthetics. Michael provided guidance and direction throughout Leah’s placement, and set her up for the next steps in her career.

Leah’s placement at Michael’s Hair Design gave her a great overview of her chosen field.  She realized the value of gaining experience and having a good recommendation that she can carry with her. Thanks to the YJC program, Leah was able to get her foot in the door of the esthetics industry and build a solid foundation for her career.  She is grateful for the opportunity.  “I don’t know where I’d be right now without YES,” Leah said.

Leah’s success story is a testament to the transformative impact of the Youth Job Connection program at YES Employment Services. With determination, training, and employer connections, Leah was able to break into the esthetics industry and begin building a successful career.  She is now dedicated to getting the industry training she needs to perform esthetics in a salon setting.  Congratulations to Leah on her success and enthusiasm, and a huge YES “thank you” to Michael’s Hair Design for providing opportunities to youth in our community.  If you would like to participate in the Youth Job Connection program, or if your business would like to hire a young person through the YJC program, call 807-623-0768 or e-mail resource@yesjobsnow.com

Outreach and Community Engagement

Our Community Outreach team was busy this month reaching out to clients and community partners including Superior High School, St. Ignatius High School, ONWA, TBDSSAB, 3 C’s, First Place Clinic, Dilico, C.A.S., Service Canada, and the Lodge on Dawson. We also exhibited at Job Fairs hosted by Lakehead University, Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School and Dougallmedia. We also hosted a job fair on site for Eagle Lake Island Lodge. March was definitely a month of making connections out in the community!

Presentations from our Community Partners

YES welcomes presentations from community partners to keep our staff informed and to keep up on community trends. This strengthens our service because it empowers staff with the knowledge to support our clients and the community contacts required to provide wrap-around service. A big YES thank you to Matt and Liany from Service Canada who provided great information to share with our clients about EI, CPP and the My Service Canada Account this month, and to CMHA for providing ASSIST training to our staff. Professional Development and knowledge sharing is a key component of our client service. If your organization would like to share information with YES Staff and/or clients, give us a call at 807-623-0768.
