A Youth Outreach Counsellor is responsible for accomplishing the key responsibilities and accountabilities in compliance with TBC’S policies, procedures and relevant Program Standards and Guidelines.

-Provide clients with an orientation to service and obtain consent to service.
-Assess client situations using standardized assessment tools to determine the types and level of services required.
-Develop treatment plans with clients that include goals to address needs identified through assessment and engage clients to take an active part in the process.
-Provide short term counselling using a variety of TBC’S accepted therapeutic approaches and modalities to support the treatment plan and accomplish identified goals.
-Work with other service providers to align support services for individual youth to meet their needs.
-Support parents and family members to assist youth address their needs by providing short-term counselling and support and, if needed, making referrals to other community services.
-Advocate for and support clients as appropriate through various means, including but not limited to participation in case conferences, facilitating contact with other services and making referrals to other services.
-Maintain an accurate client record that is reflective of services provided and contains updated information.
-Assess on an ongoing basis clients’ risk of harm to self or others and develop safety plans as required.
-Contribute to quality assurance/improvement activities through participation in the evaluation of services by providing clients with standardized feedback tools, contributing to program planning, and providing feedback.
-Address complaints by clients or others by resolving the complaint where possible or by elevating the complaint where required.
-Embrace and commit to practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, accommodation needs and language (including French language and needs for interpretation services) in all areas of responsibility.
-Maintain a current level of knowledge in relevant fields and assist in the professional growth and development of peers.
-Develop and provide training in the community to assist in educating the community in general or targeted groups in relevant areas of focus.
-Participate in TBC’S endorsed internal and/or external committees, representing TBC or staff groups, to contribute to the committee’s purpose.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Registration with a regulatory professional college
-Bachelor level degree in a social science with three (3) years’ experience
-Sound theoretical framework for working in a variety of areas, with an emphasis on mental health, trauma, abuse, addictions, depression, anxiety and relationship issues
-Training and experience in crisis intervention, including assessing for and intervening with risk of harm to self and others
-Experience and skill in group development and group facilitation
-Proficient in use of personal computers, with practical experience in current software applications, including Microsoft Office and client management systems

-Personal vehicle with 2 million liability insurance required
