An Opportunity Aligned with Professional Goals for Kaivil
When Kaivil arrived at YES Employment Services in late March 2026, he was feeling frustrated and uncertain about his job search.
With a master’s degree in computer science and several years of experience providing IT support for Apple, he believed he had the qualifications employers were seeking. Yet despite actively applying for positions and attending interviews, he still couldn’t land a position in his field.
Kaivil had worked remotely for Apple for three years when he was a student, providing technical support to customers. Although he completed extensive Apple-authorized training, he did not receive certification documentation that would allow him to transfer those credentials to future employers. When Apple required remote staff to transition to in-house support roles in Toronto, Kaivil found himself without a job.
Shortly afterward, he secured a contract position as an Administrative Assistant in the Office of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs at Lakehead University. When that contract concluded, he returned to the job market with confidence in his education and experience. However, the timing proved challenging.
There were a lot of IT applicants competing for positions. Kaivil applied and regularly secured interviews, but he wasn’t receiving job offers. With many qualified candidates pursuing a limited number of positions, the process became increasingly discouraging. After three months of searching, Kaivil felt frustrated and confused. He had the education, skills and qualifications, but his hard work wasn’t paying off.
Fortunately, Kaivil understood the value of employment services. An uncle in India operates an employment agency, giving him firsthand knowledge of how employment professionals can help connect job seekers with opportunities. YES Employment Services had also been on his radar after he noticed the organization’s sign while waiting for a bus. Further research and conversations with friends confirmed that the programs at YES could help.
When Kaivil visited YES Employment Services, he connected with Employment Coordinator Brenda. During their initial intake meeting, Kaivil was impressed by her thorough approach.
“Brenda really dug down,” he said, describing how she took the time to learn about his education, work history, skills, and previous job search efforts.
At the time, Kaivil was balancing a survival job at a local grocery store while continuing his search for professional employment. Brenda established regular check-ins and began sharing job leads that matched his background and career goals. The ongoing support became an important source of structure and accountability.
“I never felt that I was alone in this journey after I met Brenda,” Kaivil said. “It was just the kind of help I was looking for.”
One opportunity in particular would prove to be a turning point. The YES Employer Relations Team had been working with Everything Mobile, a local business that was looking to expand its team. Independent local businesses had not been on Kaivil’s radar, so he was intrigued when Brenda suggested the position.
Recognizing the strong fit, Brenda forwarded Kaivil’s resume to Everything Mobile. Supervisor Jarrod Grasley quickly arranged a preliminary phone conversation. During that discussion, Kaivil spoke about his experience with Apple and shared his long-term goal of obtaining the certifications required to access advanced technician training modules and eventually become an Apple Certified Technician. Jarrod immediately recognized how Kaivil’s ambitions aligned with the company’s vision.
When an interview was arranged with Manager Drew Costa, Jarrod encouraged Kaivil to highlight not only his technical experience and problem-solving abilities but also his commitment to professional development and certification. Kaivil’s enthusiasm, technical background, and career goals really resonated with Jarrod and Drew. The result was a successful job offer and Kaivil started his position as a Repair Technician in May 2026.
For Kaivil, joining Everything Mobile felt like a “natural transition.” The position aligned closely with his experience, interests, and future aspirations. Since joining the team, he has continued progressing through technical training and has found the workplace both supportive and rewarding. Today, Kaivil is building a career that reconnects him with the field he is passionate about, while gaining the certifications and hands-on experience that will help him achieve his long-term professional goals. Congratulations Kaivil and thanks to Everything Mobile for providing this great opportunity!
