Job Description: The Community Collaboration and Indigenous Relations Intern will work on behalf of the United Way of Thunder Bay and the Port Arthur Rotary Club to further each organization’s community engagement efforts, with a specific emphasis on connecting and collaborating with Indigenous-led organizations in Thunder Bay.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  1. Assist in the development, implementation, and coordination of community engagement strategies.
  2. Assist in the management and moderation of the United Way of Thunder Bay’s digital engagement and impact hub.
  3.  Develop and build relationships with both Indigenous-led and other BIPOC-led organizations in Thunder Bay.
  4. Conduct research and share findings on best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  5. Coordinate equity, diversity, and inclusion strategies and practices.
  6. Conduct an environmental scan and develop an understanding of community needs and wants.
  7. Engage other non-profits, community leaders, and key stakeholders to animate ongoing charitable work.
  8. Assist in the management of social media and other related duties.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies and events on behalf of the United Way of Thunder Bay and the Port Arthur Rotary Club.
  10. Promote civic engagement and volunteerism in Thunder Bay.
  11. Other relevant duties as assigned.

Other:

  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle are required.
  • Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2021 Mandate.
  • Candidate must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
  • Candidate must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 upon acceptance of employment.
  • Candidate must provide a clear criminal records check upon acceptance of employment.
  • Must self-identify as an Indigenous person.
