This is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and/or Metis) post-secondary graduates with the opportunity to gain professional-level work experience and an opportunity where they can build and develop transferable skills to assist in gaining sustainable employment.

SCOPE:

The Human Resources Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Human Resources team. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resource Assistant will work in a collaborative manner to support all Human Resources functions for the ONWA.  This includes day-to-day operations and providing administrative support with functions such as ensuring efficient and organized Human Resources processes while maintaining confidentiality and upholding ONWA’s values. The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for digitizing physical Human Resources files and maintaining up-to-date and easily accessible digital files. They will work to complete a variety of administrative tasks including revamping key tools involved in full cycle recruitment. This role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

➡️ A graduate with a degree, diploma, or post-secondary graduate certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution preferably in Human Resources.
➡️ You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. Indigenous being First Nations, Inuit and/or Metis who is a new entrant into the workforce, is transitioning to a new career, or is unemployed or underemployed and is entering a new field.
➡️ Has not previously participated in NOHFC’s People and Talent Program, is at least 18 years of age and resides within Northern Ontario.
➡️ Experience working in a collaborative setting, preferably for an Indigenous not for profit organization.
➡️ Knowledge of legislative requirements related to employment law.
➡️ Experience with cloud based HRIS, and applicant tracking systems.
➡️ Thorough understanding of confidentiality.
➡️ Ability to analyze, solve problems, present creative solutions, and make recommendations for change.
➡️ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
➡️ Ability to communicate clearly, both written and orally, to all stakeholders.
➡️ Excellent time management skills with demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and effectively handle changing priorities.
➡️ Excellent organizational skills coupled with the ability to be detailed oriented, thorough, and able to provide quality work.
➡️ Excellent computer skills include working knowledge of data entry, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, Office 365, and various office equipment.
➡️ Must be dependable, reliable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
➡️ Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage and valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
➡️ Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
➡️ Cellular phone and internet access may be required within this position.
➡️ Must be willing and able to work flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
➡️ Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
