Role Overview:

The Full-Time Custodian plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of The Outset and the 610 – 612 Simpson Street property, including Ingaged Creative Productions Inc. This role ensures a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and guests by focusing on both routine and event-specific cleaning and maintenance tasks. The custodian will collaborate closely with the Venue and Facilities Technician and operations team to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow, contributing to the success of the venue and its operations. Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance (40%)

– Perform general custodial duties to ensure cleanliness, sanitization, and maintenance of the theatre facility and grounds, including public and backstage areas such as the plenary hall, lobby, washrooms, dressing room, offices, hallways, and corridors.

– Perform general, routine custodial duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.

– Clean and maintain wood, tile, and linoleum flooring, including sweeping, mopping, and polishing.

– Vacuum and shampoo carpeting, rugs, and applicable furniture.

– Daily disinfect high-traffic surfaces, including desktops, shelves, and door handles.

– Empty and properly dispose of trash and recycling into compactors or dumpsters, coordinating pickups with third-party waste management services.

– Change air filters and clean air vents to ensure proper air quality.

– Maintain living plants throughout the facility, including watering, pruning, and pest control as necessary.

– Keep surrounding grounds and parking lots free from rubbish.

– Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring they remain stocked and operational.

– Wash all interior and exterior windows and clean blinds regularly.

Event Support (30%)

– Prepare spaces before, during, and after events, ensuring all areas are clean and functional.

– Assist with the setup and teardown of tables, seating, and furniture before and after events.

– Set up and/or remove furniture and equipment for events based on client and organizer needs.

– Coordinate with the kitchen and catering team to ensure waste and compost are managed effectively during events.

– Work with event organizers to ensure the safety, security, and protection of clients, delegates, and staff during events.

– Monitor and restock restrooms and common areas during events.

– Use commercial-grade cleaning equipment to address event-related cleaning needs, such as spills or high-traffic area maintenance.

Equipment and Grounds Maintenance (20%)

– Prepare and maintain a cleaning schedule with the Venue and Operations Manager and Facilities and Venue Technician, including daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal tasks.

– Conduct an ongoing/daily program of general equipment maintenance, including custodial equipment and supplies.

– Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows.

– Use shovels, chippers, snow blowers, and sand and/or de-ice to clear snow and ice from walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, maintaining clear paths and secure footing.

– Perform minimal landscaping tasks such as basic weeding, tidying, and ensuring outdoor areas are visually appealing.

– Monitor building security and safety when working in the building after operating hours.

– Report observances of property damage and make recommendations on items/issues that require repair and/or attention.

– Coordinate with third-party providers to support larger maintenance needs such as electrical, plumbing, or HVAC repairs.

– Perform minor repairs, such as fixing tables or other small maintenance tasks.

– Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

Collaboration and Administrative Tasks (10%)

– Meet daily with the Venue and Facilities Technician and Venue and Operations – Manager to prepare for and respond to daily events, user groups, and other building needs.

– Restock supplies in washrooms and other areas as needed, and report on the inventory of cleaning supplies.

– Regularly support the receiving of venue-related shipments and materials.

– Oversee and support the laundry of venue linens.

– Operate and maintain heavy-duty cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and commercial vacuums.

– Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding maintenance needs, issues, and supplies.

– Participate in team meetings to discuss facility-related updates or challenges.

– Provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and answer basic questions as needed.

– Prepare daily reports in collaboration with the Venue and Facilities Technician to ensure efficient operations.

– Follow all WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety Act Guidelines, adhering to instructions for the proper use of cleaners, chemicals, and equipment.

– Assist with additional duties as needed to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the venue and office space.

Qualifications and Experience

– Enthusiasm for and appreciation of live events and different delegates and clientele accessing the venue on a daily basis.

– Familiarity with the Fort William Business District and Simpson Street area is an asset.

– Previous experience in commercial cleaning or custodial work preferred, but not required.

– Familiarity with using and maintaining commercial cleaning equipment.

– Knowledge of cleaning best practices, including safe handling of chemicals and equipment.

– Awareness of safety procedures to maintain a secure work environment.

– The ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, as well as bending and standing for extended periods.

– Experience in handling machinery (e.g., buffing machine) is an asset.

– Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage various responsibilities effectively.

– Attention to detail and pride in work ethic.

– High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.

– Basic understanding of waste management, recycling, and compost practices.

– Ability to work independently and proactively identify cleaning and maintenance needs.

– Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and browser functions, including Google Workspace, with training available as needed.

– Flexibility to adjust to changing schedules or event demands.

– Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.

– Physical ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and handle repetitive tasks.

– Ability to carry out tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.

– Team-oriented mindset with the flexibility to work independently or collaboratively.

– Flexibility in schedule, as the position will require some early morning and/or late evening work based on events and rehearsal schedules, as well as the needs of daily business operations, rentals, and special events.

Required Licenses/Certifications

– Valid G Ontario Driver’s Licence with automobile insurance is required, including the ability to drive and be insured on a company or rental vehicle.

– WHMIS certification is required.

– First Aid, CPR, and AED (defibrillator training) certification is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits Package

– Hourly wage: $20–$24/hour, commensurate with experience and skills. Candidates with experience in minor repairs or technical skills may be eligible for the higher end of the wage range.

– Full-time, permanent position with a regular schedule.
