Maintenance Worker, Part-Time

George Jeffrey Children’s Centre (GJCC) is a paediatric health facility providing rehabilitation and support services to children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs. We are currently seeking qualified applicants for a Part-Time Maintenance Worker.
Under direction from the Maintenance Coordinator and CEO, the Maintenance Worker (the “Worker”) performs general maintenance and repairs of George Jeffrey Children’s Centre’s (GJCC) facilities, grounds and equipment. The Worker provides coverage for scheduled and unscheduled absences of the Maintenance Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance
• Performs basic repairs and preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment.
• Opens and disarms the main facility on an as-needed basis.
• Is a point of contact for contractors and service providers, as requested.
• Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs or other courses of action.
• Assists with operational requirements of the pool.
• Assists with set-up and take down for meetings and other events.
• Tends to urgent cleaning requirements when regular cleaning service providers are unavailable.
• Assists with seasonal maintenance of grounds; snow removal, de-icing, lawn and garden care.
Administration
• Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and facility operations.
• Maintains appropriate files for inspections, vendors and other maintenance matters.
• Assists with obtaining quotes and tender processes, as requested.
Health and Safety
• Maintain knowledge of health and safety requirements including, but not limited to; appropriate use of protective personal equipment, fire safety, accident prevention and reporting.
• Performs inspections of workplace premises and equipment, as required.
• Contributes to a culture of workplace health and safety.
Centre Support
• Assists with shipping and receiving for various programs and departments.
• Transports materials and resources between various sites.
• Participates in orientation, training, and meetings, as required.
• Provides input for the development of procedures, as requested.
Physical Demands:
• Capacity to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
• Physically able to climb stairs and ladders and bend or crawl into spaces.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time without assistance and in excesses of 50 pounds with assistance.
Job Requirements:
• Post-secondary diploma in mechanical technology or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance or related experience.
• Valid Class G Ontario Drivers Licence and a clean driving record with appropriate liability insurance coverage.
• Experience with pool operation and maintenance is considered an asset.
• Experience working in a health services environment is considered an asset.
